Carl N. Platou Emergency Center

Dunham provided mechanical, electrical, and low voltage engineering services for a major expansion of the Emergency Center at Fairview Southdale Hospital. At 65,000 SF, the new space is four times larger and increased the number and size of the patient rooms. The project also included a new rooftop helipad and the addition of an observation wing to increase the speed with which patients are treated.

Our services include the expansion and upgrades to the facility infrastructure that includes chilled water, steam boilers, domestic water, medical gas, fire protection, as well as normal and emergency power. Our team provided low voltage services including upgrades to the fire alarm system, nurse call, network, and security systems.

Behavioral EmPATH Unit

M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital opens Minnesota’s first Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing (EmPATH) service. This innovative approach to mental health care creates “a pioneering new treatment model that offers rapid, comprehensive care in a calming environment.”

Inpatient Care Addition +  Remodel

This project adds 38,206 SF inpatient addition on top of the Carl N. Platou Emergency Center, previously designed by Dunham. The project adds 52 single-patient rooms to the hospital, helping the hospital move away from the semi-private, multiple-patient room model. The room design is flexible to make the space adaptable as patient and community health needs evolve. The hospital can reconfigure the rooms to need medical/surgical, intermediate, or intensive care use. Our team provided mechanical, electrical, and commissioning services for this project.
